Rarity
NEW:
- Rarity now has a Discord server!
If you're interested in following the development process or contributing, you should also check out the official GitHub repository. We're always in need of more hands to help us make the addon better!
Rarity tracks how many times you've tried to obtain various rare items like mounts, battle pets, and toys. It will tell you how likely you are to obtain the item, track how long you've been farming for it, and tell you how lucky you've been so far. Although it's mostly used for mounts, battle pets, and toys, it supports pretty much any item, including profession patterns, archaeology projects, and more.

Out of the box, Rarity includes support for every single mount, battle pet, and toy in the game which require some time to farm. It also includes support for some mount-related items like Skyshard, Primal Egg, and Giant Dinosaur Bone. It'll even notice if you mouseover a Mysterious Camel Figurine, plus lots of other stuff. Rarity factors in the size of a typical group when determining probabilities, and can also tell you if you've killed various bosses this week (or day). Holiday just started, and you didn't notice? Rarity will give you a helpful reminder to run those holiday dungeons or daily quests if you still need an item from them.
If Rarity doesn't track something you want to track, you can add it yourself! Just about everything is user configurable.
Curious what math is going on behind the scenes? The author of Bunny Hunter created the original algorithms. He wrote an article about it here. Your chance to obtain an item doesn't increase as you farm it; Rarity is just telling you how lucky you've been so far. It can be remarkably cathartic to see a progress bar move up as you spend hours upon hours trying for that Disgusting Oozeling.
Main features
- Rarity is primarily an LDB feed with a large tooltip. It can function as either a mini-map icon (you have to turn this on in the options), or as a standard LDB feed (use a display like Fortress, Button Bin, Titan Panel, or Chocolate Bar).
- Provides a progress bar, which you can toggle by clicking the icon or feed label.
- Adds info to NPC and item tooltips, showing you if it drops or contains something that Rarity tracks. Rare mobs with a guaranteed drop show which item they drop and if you've defeated them yet.
- Includes full source info, telling you how to obtain everything Rarity tracks.
Other features
- Share packs of items with other users
- Can automatically add waypoints to TomTom for certain items
- Uses statistics whenever possible to keep track of attempts
- Breaks your farming down by session, day, week, and month
- Looks at your instance locks to see if you've defeated various bosses recently
- Reminds you if you need to farm a holiday dungeon or daily quest, and hides holiday items that aren't available right now
- Supports bonus coin rolls
- Automatically screenshots when you obtain an item
- Keeps track of rare achievements like Frostbitten and Glorious
- You can add your own items to track
- Lets you modify your attempt count without having to edit saved variables
- Automatically imports data from Bunny Hunter if you're switching
Slash Commands
Simply typing /rarity should open the options menu (unless disabled).
For troubleshooting issues:
- /rarity dump displays the most recent debug log entries (even if the debug mode is disabled)
- /rarity validate checks the consistency of your item database, including custom items (experimental)

while it technically is what I asked, that addon only messes with the background sound settings (instead of firing an alert like your addon does), and based on the comments doesn't work with background sounds disabled.
I would recommend making any requests you have to the author of that add-on. Since it already exists, this is out of scope for Rarity.
I love the auto search checkbox in the LFG tool. It may be out of the scope of possibility, but I thought it would be awesome to add a functionality to search for multiple key words. Like, suppose I am looking for a group for doom, death, terror, or veng. I would love to type the words into an "or" search box to find any group.
How do you make it not spam chat and show up as floating combat text?
In Rarity Options, visit the Announcements section under the General tab.
This is working as intended—sorry about that!
it does not seem to be tracking Statistics across all toons. just the Statistics of one toon kills. Anyway to fix it so it Combindes Statistics ?
After a LK kill this week it updated then decided to no longer show Invincible's Reins in the list of mounts being tracked. No, I did not loot it.
Turn off "Hide defeated items" if you don't like that behavior.
OH! That's why lol. Sorry, thanks for the help. Didn't know thats why it went blank. I was panicking thinking I sold the mount.
Rarity counts twice for the kill in "Lost City of the Tol'vir" of Lockmaw and Augh (You actually loot Augh)
There is a ticket over at WowAce with all the details of issues related to that mount. I'm out of town for another week before I can get fixes in place.
As of r486, it seems to be back to working correctly on every standard 5-man boss again. :) Thanks for the quick fix!
There are some issues with the Infinite Timereaver in Cataclysm timewalking as well. The count isn't updated automatically on bosses where you loot a chest (Murozond & Ozumat), and there were a couple of other inconsistencies as well that I didn't document.
For some reason, when I was farming the Vitreous Stone Drake, it was not counting the amount of attempts. It stayed at 0, and would only change if I changed it manually.
After the most recent update, I had this same problem with some 5-man bosses. Confirmed it to not update on at least Slabhide, Skadi, and 5-man Kael'Thas. Possibly a couple more as well, wasn't paying full attention. Doesn't seem to be broken on all 5-man bosses, at least Kilnara worked correctly for me.
Can one of you turn Debug Mode on (it's toward the bottom of the main Options screen in Rarity). Kill one of those bosses and post what you get in your chat log? I checked all the code and I'm not sure what the problem could be. I noticed the bosses you mention can now also drop the Infinite Timereaver on Timewalking mode, so there must be something going on there. But the code looks good to me. Thanks!
I'm out of town for a couple weeks so won't be able to investigate further until next month.
Can't test the others until tomorrow when the instances reset, but tried normal Slabhide and heroic Altairus (who I didn't do earlier, but who also now can drop the Infinite Timereaver). Didn't work on either one of them. Debug mode had the following to say:
The first one is Slabhide, the second is Altairus. Other bosses in the same dungeons showed the same lines, just slightly different IDs.
I'm headed out the door now, but I think I located the problem. I pushed out a fix in r486. Wait for that build to show up and try it out. Hopefully the fix worked! Now I won't be able to get back to this for a few weeks :) Thanks for posting the debug output!

Click the Rarity icon to toggle the progress bar. It never shows up on its own.
Hello i downloaded rarity and have started farming for skyshards, havent tried farming any other item but for some reason i just dont see the kills tracker bar that shows up when you start killing mobs for a specific item. Is is just bugged for skyshards or something?
