RewriteDifferences

This page will attempt to detail the principal differences between old (pre 5.0) and new (post 5.0) versions of SKG. You should also refer to this page if you are previewing alpha or beta releases, since many of these differences will be new to you.

Main Panel Switching Button

  • The round button on the top left corner is the main panel switching button
  • This switcher will only allow you to switch to panels that you are authorized to use

Security system

  • By default, all users of SKG are considered "User" level security
  • The security policy can only be set by the Guild Leader
  • Security policies are specific per Server/Faction/Guild
  • For more details, please read Security Policy and Security Tiers

DEBUG CODE

  • There is an option available from the Options panel (and the Fubar menu) to enable DEBUG code. This option will push significant amounts of debugging output to your default chat frame. This is definitely not recommended for everyday use.

Conversion from older versions

  • Old and new versions should under no circumstances be run at the same time. Procedures for Importing Lists are, however, documented on this site.

Profiles

  • Older versions had settings setup to either be available to all characters on an account (Account Wide Settings), or settable on each individual character, but not both. In newer version, both options are available. More information is available on the Profiles page.

List Management

  • Class lists are removed (Bid Filtering has removed the need for them).
  • Player activity is tracked now. Hovering the mouse over a player in a Roll list should show you (in the tooltip) when they were last involved in a loot event.
  • The new version supports the creation of Main/Alt Relationships. There is also a new [Players List] that assists with doing so. Use of this option is not required, however.
  • "Find Missing" and "Add Missing" functions now work far more easily than before. A single click will determine who from your current raid is not represented in your Players List and/or Roll List

Bidding Panel

  • Bidding functions can now all be handled inside the GUI.
  • Whispers of "bid", "retract", "suicide" and "skg" all behave as you might expect
  • Bid Filtering has been implemented, allowing you to limit the classes that can bid on an item

Syncing

  • Syncing is now handled in a very different manner from all previous version. The Syncing topic makes more thorough reading on this topic
  • There is no longer a need to have an "SKG Master" to handle looting events
  • Determining who has current lists, as well as getting everyone sync'd up when people's lists are different is far simpler now, with easy visual cues (equivalent to the old Sync Key) to tell if people's lists differ
  • Syncing is also in almost all cases a "on request" pull of data from one player to another. No changes are ever made to your own lists unless YOU request them

Help System

  • In-game help system for both admins and users
  • Complete help, however, is found on this site

Communication

  • Most communication between addons occurs across the GUILD addon channel, and is hidden from users. Some communication goes directly from one player to another (WHISPER addon channel), and is also hidden from users
  • There should almost never be a need to "Accept a Sync" from another user. Only when lists completely conflict with one another does one list or the other need to be considered the "authority"
