Migrating settings
If you have the settings from the old Threat Plates addon you can go in \World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\<account_name>\SavedVariables and make a copy of TidyPlates_ThreatPlates.lua with the name TidyPlates_Threat.lua. Then open the newly created file with a text editor and on the second row replace the name with TidyPlatesThreatDB.
Not much difference in memory or cpu usage from before/after the slowdown. I already play with most of the Tidy Plate extras turned off - only Tidy Plates, Widgets, and Threat are on.
However through the use of another addon, I can increase my nameplate display range to 100. I have it set around 60 else there are too many nameplates on screen.
The game CVAR is nameplateMaxDistance. Last time I tested it was hard limited to 60 so I doubt any addon can increase beyond this.
See image below. Top is set to 100. Bottom is set to 60. Notice the nameplates in the distance showing/not showing.

Hello, first off thank you very much for this addon. I've been using it for many years now.
But, for some reason I cannot stop friendly plates from showing up, despite constantly un-selecting friendly plates or going the key bind to do so. Is this is a Blizzard thing or a TP thing?
You probably have another addon interfering with that game setting. Shift + V should toggle between show / hide friendly nameplates.
Hey IceEagle.
A great feature to implement (if possible) would be to allow customisation of the range where enemy nameplates showed, and have them as text-only if they are beyond this limit.
Eg, full nameplates if their range is less than 50, and name-only if their range is above 50. Do you reckon something like that would be possible?
The nameplate display is determined by the game. We are just replacing the nameplate with our own version. We can also hide nameplates that are shown by the game. Since legion the max distance was increased from 40 to 60. So I could add options to play with up to 60yd.
Edit: Did some digging. max distance is 100. But I cannot get the distance between a player and any unit. Position functions only work for grouped players in party or raid.
Hey IceEagle.
Any chance of more customisations on friendly name-only text? Thicker font outlines etc? Also any chance of having NPC name-only settings independent to friendly players?
Could you implement combo points over healthbar for monk? chi combo points. currently doesnt work for me.
Added in v1.17
Thanks:)
Can I make a suggestion. In the picture you can see combo points show as I target a friendly target. If it would be a option to disable combo points on friendly target.

and option to change the look of the combo points to something like blizz default.
Cannot thank you enough for updating the addon for Legion. Would be lost without it.
Decided to comment today to thanks not only for that, but also for the recent "text only style" for players. Needing to intervene them often, but HATING the Blizz nameplates, it was a real pain. This new change has made things so much better. Thank you
Thank you for the nice words.
So now Blacksalsify has updated Threat Plates. Are you guys going to combine or compete or is one going to stop?
The original author, suicidalkatt, is no longer maintaining the addon. Blacksalsify and me each started our own fork and worked independently on updating for Legion. When I became aware of his work we exchanged a few messages. He said he's happy with the freedom of working alone, so I guess we'll continue to have 2 separate versions.
At some point suicidalkatt replied to Blacksalsify's requests and added him as developer to his project on wowinterface and curseforge. So now Blacksalsify is uploading his work under the original project name.
As it stands right now, I think my version has more fixes and options added in so I'll continue to use and support this version.
Thanks for the update mate, TP got dumped with no warning for so long and I was thrilled that you'd picked it up and run with it so i'll be sticking here with you ;)
First of all, thank you very much for continuing support of this addon – I use it since the start of my tanking career back in Cataclysm and can't imagine my life without it.
But my problem is – currently I suffer rather unpleasant fps drops/stuttering when in combat in heroics. It doesn't appear to be the case in open world. First I blamed Recount, but after I installed threat plates on my gf's PC – she started experiencing these lags too.
Anyone else getting same lags? Anything I can do to provide more info? I usually play with LUA errors disabled, probably should try enabling them and see if anything pops?
I turned on the fps meter and tested in 2 random dungeons as pala tank and hunter dps. Didn't notice any drop in framerates compared to open world.
Would suggest to check if you have the latest addon versions both for TidyPlates and the Threat theme.
It's not bad to have lua errors enabled. That way you know when an addon is missbehaving and you can report the problem and/or turn it off.
Hey IceEagle. Addon is super fuckin sexy now. Much love <3
Thank you!
