Utopia
Utopia
(aka: ZOMGDebuffs)
With today's high-end boss fights so tuned for absolutely maximum performance, it's important to know exactly what you're getting from your raiders. Do you have all buffs and debuffs available? Are the all improved? Are they active during the fight? Need to see that they were kept up during the fight?
WoW 3.0 introduced a whole new stacking system for buffs and debuffs. Add to that the myriad of hidden auras that are implied by talents, but don't appear on the tooltips. It's near impossible to look through that ever moving mess of debuffs on a target. It's just too much too look at. Nor should you have to.
So, here's Utopia. It will give you a very concise and clear view of your buffs and debuffs (see the buff display pictured below). With a fixed number of icons, which don't move or change. They'll simply be highlighted in red if missing; otherwise faded if unavailable, bright if present, yellow if present but unimproved, and so on.
Clarity is the key, and how fast you can answer yourself any questions mid-fight. I play a rogue, and because our warriors slack (they like to pretend to dps and moan about Sundering), we can very quickly see whether Sunder Armor is applied and, if it's absent, throw Expose Armor into our cycle. The icon is always in the same place, and always means the same thing.
The Display
An arrangement of icons showing the 'classes' of debuff, rather than the traditional specific debuff icons. For example, you will have one single icon representing Sunder Armor and Expose Armor. You don't care which is applied, only that it's there. The same applies to all the myriad of other buffs and debuffs which are now grouped into doing the same job.
By default, these icons are presented thusly:
- Dimmed - Your group can't apply this aura
- White - Debuff applied
- Yellow - Your group has applied this aura but it is an unimproved version. Do you feel dirty?
- Red - Your group can apply this aura, but hasn't
- Blue - Aura is unavavailable because of a conflicting spell (Blessings, Curses etc.)
Mousing over any of the icons will show the potential of the raid. Highlighted lines show what your raid can do. A Tick shows it's done, a cross means it's not. Next to this you get the values for the auras, and if that's different from the maximum your group can do, this is shown.
Anything unavailable will always show the maximum potential value of a debuff with all improved talents, whereas when something is available it will show the maximum that could be done by your raid.
The progress bar will show the percentage that has been debuffed for a quick at-a-glance view.
Standard buff tooltips are enhanced to show you the real values that you're getting from your raid member's buffs.
Up-Time Module
The new debuff Up-Time recorder will record a fight, when auras are applied, removed, by whom. The DPS for the fight, deaths and significant boss events so that you can examine the timeline of your fight after the fact.
Donations
While donations are not ever expected they do help, and recent donations by a kind few are one of the reasons I have returned at this time to resume work on this and other mods. Please do consider how worthwhile Utopia is to you and help to continue it's support into the future.

First of all, I LOVE THIS ADDON!!! Second of all it is working just fine with my Deathknight and Mage. But i keep getting an "Divide by 0" Error on my Heal Paladin. As soon as i am home i will try to reproduce this error and be posting what exactly i did to trigger it.
Larnen, currently the anchor point is where the hover-over buttons are located. So, if they're on the bottom, it'll grow upwards.
Is there any chance of reversing that (or adding an option)? It just means you can't align it at present - if you align the bottom to another pane EITHER the popup buttons will clip the pane below OR it will grow to clip the pane below. Ideally I'd love to see the bottom (or top, or right etc - user preference) be anchored so you can align it to another pane, and everything, both popup buttons and extra bars grow away from that point.
Only a minor cosmetic thing, but could be nice if not too hard to implement.
melfus, I do see your point. Let me have a think about it. I might be able to come up with some 'sectional' config (pure melee, caster dps, other) to at least seperate them out somewhat.
Larnen, currently the anchor point is where the hover-over buttons are located. So, if they're on the bottom, it'll grow upwards.
- Split the 'Display' and 'Show When' options into Debuff and Buff, so that each frame can have independant options for both (i.e. I'd have buffs a lot larger than debuffs with more columns since they're out of the way, I'd have debuffs only show in combat with an enemey targetted, but buffs shown while in a raid)
- Ability to remove the frame titles to blend the addon into your UI seamlessly
- Option to disable the Blizzard default buffs or debuffs
- OmniCC (or other) style timers on the buff/debuff icons
I think those would make this the perfect buff/debuff addon for me, instead of replicating the entire functionality in PowerAuras.
Thought about timers a few times, but the space is quite limited. It's still on the table though.
I'd be reluctant to disable blizzard buffs entirely. What would be more appropriate would be a filter to exclude everything covered by Utopia. This is on my wish list.
Apologies if it already does this and I've just missed the option, but is it possible to set the anchor point and grow direction for Utopia? An example of what I mean - if i have the bottom of Utopia aligned to another mod and 'show available' on, then it aligns great. If I then turn on 'show all' it grows downwards and clashes with the item below it. The idea is to let us anchor it at the bottom (or left/right or whatever) and have it grow away from that point.
Thanks! Larnen
Yeah, I would get used to them, but even filtering them I'm still dealing with 19 buffs and debuffs... the unfortunate world of an enhancement shaman.
I love the mod so far, gonna see how well it works in a raid.
melfus, I do plan on some tweaking to the icon display there. But probably more along the lines of configurable choice of icons, to suit what you'd recognise easiest. That kind of thing. I don't think it's too harsh atm to get used to the icons. If you filter them 'F' popup button to what's relevant to your class/role, then there's only a handful to look at.
Any way it could be set up to just show a text representation of the buff/debuff instead of the icons. It would be a bit quicker to pick up on whats missing.
ie. Have it say 10% AP instead of the icon for TSA
In addition, is there a way that the buff check could display the time remaining (if multiple buffs from the same class just use the longest). This would add a lot of versatility to the use of the buff aspect of this mod.
Another nice feature, which has been mentioned before, would be simultaneous buff and debuff display. Optimally using completely separate frames.
One other feature which I don't expect, but doesn't hurt to mention. It would be nice to be able to choose which (de)buff icon from the category is displayed (I personally am constantly confused by seeing the Master Poisoner icon rather than Totem of Wrath or to a lesser extent Heart of the Crusader).
At some point in the past, I managed to access the buff/debuff history window. However, at present, clicking on the LDB entry only toggles the debuff display or brings up the configuration window.
Im not sure if some other mod (maybe spammage meters) is filtering it out, but I am no longer seeing the EOC message that that would bring up the debuff time display window. Is there a way to bring up the window using a / command?
thanks
@Zanthor - Utopia's doing nothing wrong here and certainly makes no reference to CASTINGBAR_SR, whatever that is. I tried looking thru RDX links for Brethren, but there's so many and I just don't have time to install everything searching for it.
Unless RDX is doing something really naughty, I just don't see how this error can occur.
@SoNoFu - Utopia could have been helping the problem, because it triggers a load of inspects on your raid members. On it's own this is fine. If however you have another mod (say and item link gatherer) that will scan all inspected players, this could put an extra load on things that wow doesn't like.
But, I think they fixed all the random DC problems with the recent mini-patch. Been fine since then?
@Zidomo - I specifically did not include it in the toc/package because I know it's a very very rarely used lib. And I just don't like pulling in stuff when it's not really a big deal. All it's for is translating the spec name. If the lib's found, it'll use it.
LibBabble-TalentTree-3.0 is referenced in the new Utopia_Details module. But its not going to load or be found with how its currently packaged; it needs to be referred to in the TOC.
The new library included with r97 (LibBabble-TalentTree-3.0) is not going to be found by the mod if its embedded. The only other mod I've yet seen that uses it is ClassLoot. There are no pointers to it in the TOC or anywhere else.
