Table of Contents

Have you ever charged into a boss fight, only to discover you're an idiot and forgot something crucial?
This mod checks your character and gear before boss pulls to make sure nothing is wrong, and yells at you in various humorous ways if you're being an idiot. It goes into considerable depth and checks many things not checked by traditional raid-buffing addons.

You might be an idiot if you've ever gone into a boss fight...

With a broken weapon
Wearing a fishing pole, chef's hat, or teleport item
With a dead pet
Without an enchant or gem on that new item
Missing talent points or glyphs
Wearing items for the wrong spec
With glyphs for the wrong spec
With a flask for the wrong spec
Without your class self-buffs
Much, much more...

All checks can be individually enabled/disabled and configured. By default it checks your gear when you first target a boss or receive a ready check. The addon itself is very lightweight and fast, and never runs during combat.

IdiotCheck can also automatically scan inspection targets and group members for most failures. Note that checking via inspection/scanning is slightly less thorough than self-checks, due to limitations in the Blizzard inspection API. This feature is provided as a convenience, but for the most accurate results all raiders should install the addon (which also helps ensure costly failures are discovered outside of raid time!).

Installation and Usage:

Install as usual
Left-click the icon to run a self-check manually
Middle-click the icon to scan your current group members within inspection range
Right-click the icon on the minimap or LDB for settings (defaults are good for most purposes)
Command-line options are also available via: /ic

Warning about content:
This addon is essentially a drill instructor for your raid play. It works by yelling at you when you screw up, so that other players don't have to. This addon includes occasional use of strong language, which is not intended for children or other people who are easily offended. Do not submit complaints, we're not going to change it for you. If you are easily offended do not download this addon. Better yet, quit wow and go play Hello Kitty Island Adventure.

Hi! I like this addon, but i have 2 issues:

1. on my Arms warrior spec is properly detected, but it doesn't show any warning for being in Defensive stance (instead of Battle Stance).

2. on my Disc priest spec is properly detected, but it doesn't show any warning for missing Inner Fire/Will.

The addon already checks for both Inner Fire/Will and Tank Stance, but these are considered "buffs", and by default Buff checks are only performed inside an instance, so you won't see them standing around in town. You can change this in the Buff settings.

Just a note to all - the new 4.0 version should be *mostly* working on 5.0 live servers. It definitely has a few small bugs remaining to be fixed that I'll be working on in the coming week or so (I'm responsible for a large number of addons so my time is limited). First of all: thanks for a great addon.

A request: Would it be possible to output some kind of idiot/non-idiot output to the text part of the LDB feed? It would be great to be able to glance at the infobar and have textual confirmation of readyness for myself.

I too, was slightly disappointed (that you had to buckle under to the 'real' idiots) when I saw the name change. Love the addon, though. Saves me from being taunted by HUMANS.

Just wanted to drop a note that the new changes are terrific. I'm using this every day and getting in the habit of checking raid members.

Only two minor things I can see that might improve it:

- Group checks are a bit spammy with multiple lines per retarded fails, and if there are many it'll generate a few chat pane pages' worth. I haven't even tried it in a 25-man raid yet where the fail alerts could get out of hand. Not sure if there's a smooth way to agglomerate the info more concisely but it may be worth keeping in mind. (And I know this is a new feature with some wrinkles, etc.)

- I tend to quest/farm in pvp spec and gear on my rp-pvp server. RetardCheck gives me grief about it sometimes. Could there be a way to put it in a pro-pvp mode instead, where non-resilience pieces become the alert trigger and hit/spell-pen thresholds are adjusted for same-level players?

Again, excellent addon and the above tweaks would just be bonuses. Thx!

Glad you find it useful - please hit the "like" button above and help spread the word :-)

I have been thinking about ways to make the group scan output less spammy in raids full of baddies (LFR is especially bad). I might end up tying it into another group status addon like BigBrother.

Regarding pvp.. I may eventually add a pvp "mode", but in the meantime you can create a pvp profile with the resilience, hit and spell pen checks set to appropriate values (and using the dual spec support it can activate when you switch to pvp spec). I might automate that if there's sufficient interest, but the hard part is deciding which mode to activate when you're outside a bg or instance.
