Rarity
NEW: Rarity now has a Discord server!
If you're interested in following the development process or contributing, you should also check out the official GitHub repository. We're always in need of more hands to help us make the addon better!
Rarity tracks how many times you've tried to obtain various rare items like mounts, battle pets, and toys. It will tell you how likely you are to obtain the item, track how long you've been farming for it, and tell you how lucky you've been so far. Although it's mostly used for mounts, battle pets, and toys, it supports pretty much any item, including profession patterns, archaeology projects, and more.

Out of the box, Rarity includes support for every single mount, battle pet, and toy in the game which require some time to farm. It also includes support for some mount-related items like Skyshard, Primal Egg, and Giant Dinosaur Bone. It'll even notice if you mouseover a Mysterious Camel Figurine, plus lots of other stuff. Rarity factors in the size of a typical group when determining probabilities, and can also tell you if you've killed various bosses this week (or day). Holiday just started, and you didn't notice? Rarity will give you a helpful reminder to run those holiday dungeons or daily quests if you still need an item from them.
If Rarity doesn't track something you want to track, you can add it yourself! Just about everything is user configurable.
Curious what math is going on behind the scenes? The author of Bunny Hunter created the original algorithms. He wrote an article about it here. Your chance to obtain an item doesn't increase as you farm it; Rarity is just telling you how lucky you've been so far. It can be remarkably cathartic to see a progress bar move up as you spend hours upon hours trying for that Disgusting Oozeling.
Main features
- Rarity is primarily an LDB feed with a large tooltip. It can function as either a mini-map icon (you have to turn this on in the options), or as a standard LDB feed (use a display like Fortress, Button Bin, Titan Panel, or Chocolate Bar).
- Provides a progress bar, which you can toggle by clicking the icon or feed label.
- Adds info to NPC and item tooltips, showing you if it drops or contains something that Rarity tracks. Rare mobs with a guaranteed drop show which item they drop and if you've defeated them yet.
- Includes full source info, telling you how to obtain everything Rarity tracks.
Other features
- Share packs of items with other users
- Can automatically add waypoints to TomTom for certain items
- Uses statistics whenever possible to keep track of attempts
- Breaks your farming down by session, day, week, and month
- Looks at your instance locks to see if you've defeated various bosses recently
- Reminds you if you need to farm a holiday dungeon or daily quest, and hides holiday items that aren't available right now
- Supports bonus coin rolls
- Automatically screenshots when you obtain an item
- Keeps track of rare achievements like Frostbitten and Glorious
- You can add your own items to track
- Lets you modify your attempt count without having to edit saved variables
- Automatically imports data from Bunny Hunter if you're switching
Slash Commands
Simply typing /rarity should open the options menu (unless disabled).
For troubleshooting issues:
- /rarity dump displays the most recent debug log entries (even if the debug mode is disabled)
- /rarity validate checks the consistency of your item database, including custom items (experimental)

Why Rarity addon stopped printing attempt numbers for [Knockoff Blingtron]? It is still in the list of not found pets.
In reply to AlexL1118:
I've no idea. Please enable the debug log and see if there's any indication as to why that might be the case.
It's possible some of the cursor event changes may have caused this, though that's only a guess. Blizzard removed an event Rarity relies on in the last patch and I had to find a workaround :)
In reply to Cakechart:
Here are the debug prints which you suggested to do:
[05:13:03]Rarity: Debug mode ON

There is no print about attempt number.
And the counter in the addon panel did not change: 812 before, 812 after.
In reply to AlexL1118:
what i see is, that rarity isnt printing any attempt numbers anymore, not just this one. Maybe a localization problem? German client here.

In reply to AlexL1118:
Hi, I looked into this and unfortunately I'm not yet sure what causes the problem. Something is clearly wrong and I suspect Blizzard changed something so the previous method of detection became unreliable, but more time is needed to investigate (and it's difficult because you have to find container items to test ingame, which takes even more time).
Status: https://github.com/WowRarity/Rarity/issues/500
In reply to Meeki1981:
A localization problem seems unlikely. Have you checked your output channel settings?
In reply to Cakechart:
wow that was it ... thank you very much. I am only suprised because i never unchecked there something. How would i know i have to check the "chat" there without you answer :)
now is everything okay. Thanks.
In reply to Meeki1981:
For me it's not OK yet.
By the way, same problem happens with Necroray Eggs from Maldraxxus dailies - the counting worked in WoW v9 and stopped working in WoW v10.
In reply to Meeki1981:
Several people have reported that their output channel settings changed. I don't know why that would be, but maybe Blizzard changed something and the old settings were no longer valid.
In reply to AlexL1118:
Did you check your output channel settings? Or are you referring to the container opening issue? If so, I don't have a solution since I'm not sure why it suddenly stopped working reliably with the patch.
In reply to Cakechart:
Output channel setting had all checkboxes empty, but ticking the "Chat" did not help. And I doubt it relates to the output channel setting. This is because the icon of Rarity does not change too (I expected it to change to the icon of [Knockoff Blingtron]), and the counter of that pet does not increase when I open a [Blingtron 6000 Gift Package]. However, the item ID of [Blingtron 6000 Gift Package] seems correct (132892) becasue it is identical to the item ID of the [Blingtron 6000 Gift Package] which I'm getting these days.
In reply to Meeki1981:
You shouldn't normally have to change this setting, but if Blizzard did something behind the scenes the old settings may no longer have been valid (defaulting to a blank checkbox).
In reply to AlexL1118:
Yes, the output channel setting only resolves the other issue that people have been reporting. As for the container item detection, that's why I referenced the GitHub issue since the problem is not yet isolated and so cannot be fixed. It's not specific to Blingtron gift packages, but rather a general problem that affects all container items.
In reply to Cakechart:
Yes, indeed, I saw this problem with several items, not only with Blingtron gift packages. just did not want to overflow this conversation with too many facts.
And - according to your post - did I understand correctly that this problem became a known problem, and it happens not only for me, and the addon maintainer(s) succeeded to reproduce it (even though the problem root cause has not been localized yet)?
In reply to AlexL1118:
Yes, multiple people have reported the problem. When looking into it briefly, I noticed something weird going on but I haven't had enough time to isolate the cause. It's all in the GitHub issue: https://github.com/WowRarity/Rarity/issues/500 (I'm the current maintainer of Rarity)
Good Morning,
I moused over the minimap icon today and the following popped up. Not sure if it's worth reporting, but here it is anyhow:
[09:46:31] Rarity: Oh no! Something went horribly wrong. This is what happened:
Failed to add tooltip line for item 2 (AV4xXlReU2l0ZW1zXlReTjIzXlReU2VuYWJsZWReQl5TdHlwZV5TSVRFTV5TbWV0aG9kXlNOUENeU25hbWVeU3ByZWRhdGlvbl5TbnBjc15UXk4xXk4xODExMTZedF5TY2hhbmNlXk4yMF5TcmVwZWF0YWJsZV5CXlNleHBvcnReQl5TaXRlbUlkXk4xODkxNjVedF50XlNzaWduYXR1cmVeU1JGSTJQRDRqT2pKME5udGdJbmMvWkE9PV5TYnVpbGReTjcxNV50Xl4=) in group Custom (invalid ID or the server didn't return any data)
If you didn't change anything that might've caused this, please report the error to the addon developer so it can be fixed :)
